Plug Your Book: Online Book Marketing for Authors, Book Publicity Through Social Networking
Rating: -
I would have given this book 5 stars, but oddly it does not make any mention of facebook, with its 47 million plus users at all, nor twitter - but other than that, WOW!
Writing a good book is one thing, making people aware of it quite something else, and Steve's book opens up a world that you, as a writer, can unlock easily - all you have to do is follow the clear, straightforward and sensible instructions in this book.
An absolute lifeline for any writer who does not want to sit waiting around in ever more desperate hope for a good publisher. Be warned though, although this book is a gift from the marketing gods, it still takes a lot of time and effort to engage with your audience - once your book has been written, the real work starts... I would also recommend making friends with someone that is quite web savvy, to help you create your websites, blogs and myspace pages (it is not always as easy as it sounds).
Thank you Steve, I can't wait for the next edition.

I love a book that exceeds my expectations. Plug Your Book did. It was so well-written i.e. easy to read, logically organised and best of all jam-packed full of useful advice. It made me realise there is so much marketing that self-published authors can do that the big publishers can't. THAT'S a nice feeling.
I would strongly recomend this book for all authors, especially those who are both captain and crew of their own ships. And a huge 'thank you' to Steve Weber, too.

I sent for Steve Weber's book because I was aware that unless a title becomes a big seller by the conventional routes of endorsements, reviews, features, the enthusiasm of bookshop managers and of course word of mouth; then there comes a time when the only realistic way to maintain it's currency, and to invoke the elusive Long Tail of marketing, is by putting some effort into online sales, particularly through Amazon.
What I discovered is not only that there are numerous tried and tested strategies for directing internet users to your book, including imaginative use of the marketing tools on Amazon itself, and the use of social networking and bookmarking sites; but also that these strategies should really be implemented early on - in many cases, well before publication.
What I liked most about Weber's book is that it doesn't remotely recommend any of the sleight of hand or shady practice sometimes associated with online marketing, spamming etc. On the contrary, the key things are practicality, courtesy and good old fashioned hard work.
Every author should have a copy.

This book is a highly readable account of what you can do to promote your own self-published book online - especially through Amazon. It is biased towards Amazon.com rather than Amazon.co.uk but many of the techniques are valid for both. I found it particularly relevant as I want to promote my book more in the States.

When I first starting reading this book, I thought I would make a few notes. That proved impossible - the book is packed to the brim with tips! Steve's recommendation of reading the book once through was spot on; after that, I started picking and choosing advice from different sections.
One advantage of this book is the fact that he doesn't go into too much detail - I didn't want the "how to become an expert" - I just wanted to know what was out there and the most important information I needed for implementing the recommendations. He achieves the perfect balance of detail in this regard.
